Yasawa Islands, Fiji
By: Kerry
Just as we bought Sel Citron in 2012, my mother Corinne was diagnosed with secondary cancer. Consequently, our plan was to get the boat to the tropics as soon as we could so that she could come and stay with us while she was still well enough.
Sadly, her health deteriorated more quickly than anyone anticipated. Being a boat and water person all her life, she’d have loved to come cruising, and it was terribly sad for all of us that she never made it.
So having my uncle Graham, Mum’s only sibling, on board was the next best thing and we had a lovely time with him, my aunt Pat and cousin Katrina cruising the Yasawas.

Oh Kez, don’t think I knew about your Mum. I’m very sorry. I went to the Yasawa group of islands when I worked on a cruise ship. I remember thinking- man I want to come back here without all these people. I’m lucky to have seen them at all and even luckier that we have a chance to see them on our own… so to speak in the future. Fantastic to see your pics and read your post.

Hi Kyles, Lovely to hear from you and thanks for your kind thoughts. I still miss her terribly – even though it’s been a while, now. Still crack a tear pretty easily. I wrote about it on the blog here: https://selcitron.com/2013/02/20/back-at-the-ranch/ You’ll love Fiji when you get there – really wonderful cruising and people are amazing. So sad to think of all the damage done by Cyclone Winston. Love to hear all about your plans for cruising – can give you a tip or three million on what NOT to do!!! xxx
